Ukraine is a nation in Eastern Europe and is a member of the United Nations.

Up until 1991, Ukraine was a republic of the Soviet Union and the nation was the site of two major disasters. The first was the Holodomor in the 1930s where millions of Ukrainians starved to death during Stalin's collectivization of farming. The second major disaster that befell Ukraine was the Chernobyl nuclear disaster in April 1986 in which the fourth reactor at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant exploded, causing the world's worst nuclear disaster.
