  • The X-Files wiki finally has an infobox for shows! I made one this morning. I can't believe it's taken this long :P haha

    • You're right! I wonder what this Wiki looked like when it first launched in 2005?

Anyway I've actually done a lot of editing past few days, happy to be back.

    • I want to know admins thoughts on this.

I think some of the character articles are too long. Fox Mulder, Dana Scully, Walter Skinner and Cigarette Smoking Man in particular have extremely lengthy articles.

I would like to rewrite them but I don't feel like I'm knowledgeable enough. I will give it a try though

    • Length in terms of rambling/too much content or in terms of takes too long to scroll? If you mean the latter, perhaps the use of a scroll-box could be useful.

      Example:

    • I guess I was more referring to articles perhaps having too much content in them. For Mulder's article, it seems like almost every single detail about his life has been added.

    • Maybe it's just me tbh lol

    • I think usually, it's good to have more content as it means we're being thorough. However, we could definitely change some things in terms of organization, using more scrollboxes, and splitting the content up into different sections. Thoughts?

    • Yeah I like your idea a lot! In fact I'm actually about to publish a new layout to Dana Scully's article. If you and the others don't like it though it can be reverted back :)

    • I love it! Looks great! However, the tabber situation in her bio page seems to be problematic. Perhaps change that to headings with a table of contents as a guide? Otherwise it all looks fantastic!

      Overlapping tabbers

    • I love more content on pages. I love tabs for the character overview stuff for Mulder and Scully through the seasons and films and years.

I think the headings should be done by years perhaps in the tabber than the long headings. Be easier to read.

    • Thanks for feedback guys. Regarding the tabber I was going to try and space the tabs out by editing the css but I can only add left/right margins. I can't add bottom margins so the second row tabs aren't stacked on top of the first.

    • Remember that tabbers are only a desktop solution, and yet most of FANDOM's viewers are from mobile (tabbers do not work on mobile and appear just as one long block of text). So, in this case, I think headers and a table of contents is better, as it is more universal. Just my two cents.

    • Ah good point, I had no idea tabbers wouldn't even work on mobile, or that most viewers are on mobile version!

Ok so I'll scrap the tabbers and put a table of contents in instead

    • I forgot about mobile version. Good idea.

I didn't either. I guess those who just like to read wikis use mobile. Most who edit pages wouldn't on a small screen. I doubt many edit using mobilw version be quite hard to edit on a smaller device.

    • Yeah, I believe viewers are mostly mobile but for editors it’s debatable. Great changes, Dana Scully Fan! Looks great!

    • Looks great Dana Scully Fan!

    • Urgh I've just realised that the Tabs template used on all the episode articles doesn't work on mobile. I spent a long time dividing character articles into tabs as well but I guess I'll have to revert them all back to just one article :P

        Loading editor
    • Unfortunately yes, they don't seem to work. Scully's page on mobile only shows the infobox and "Personality," nothing else.

        Loading editor
    • This is so frustrating, I'll have to revert it back to just the one page. The main reason why I don't like long pages is because it makes the source editor really slow (for me anyway)

        Loading editor
    • That sucks with the mobile version.

It does lag and get slow. That frustrates me too.

    • I've come up with a decent solution. I've added almost the whole article into a collapsible element (except the infobox and intro paragraph) and placed it on the main character page. When you all get the time could you check Dana Scully's page on mobile device and tell me what you think. Thanks!

Edit:Only drawback is no table of contents
