Several episodes, such as Jose Chungs "From Outer Space" and the Redux trilogy indicate that the government sometimes uses images of greys for disinformation purposes, to conceal the abductions and activity performed by the human members of the project. It should be noted that the fake greys often look notably different from the real ones, although they share the same basic look.

Grey

Grays

For the baseball team, see Roswell Grays.

A "Grey" is a colloquial term used to describe the alien species that crashed at Roswell in 1947, and planned to colonize Earth in 2012. (TXF: "The Truth") They are also referred to as "Reticulans." (TXF: "Squeeze"; "Blood") this is the name of the the aliens mature form

They worked with the Syndicate as part of the Project and were referred to as colonists until its demise in 1999. (TXF: "One Son")

In "Squeeze" and "Blood," the Greys were jokingly referred to as "Reticulans," implying that they come from the nearby star system Zeta Reticuli; however the term has never been brought up in any other episodes. In reality, Zeta Reticuli is where many alien abductees report the Grey originate from.

Anatomy and physical characteristics

Although the relationship between the greys/colonists and the alien county hunters is unclear, they seem to be similar or possibly the same species, although this discrepancy was never addressed. They are able to reproduce through at least two different means. The first being gestation in a human host and emergence as the reptilian like alien, which seeks heat and then sheds its outer skin to become a proper grey. The existence of the alien fetus indicates that they may be able to give birth in a manner similar to humans, although this fetus may just be an early form of the prior gestation process.

Various comments indicate that the black oil virus, the gestating form of the greys, and the effect of their toxic blood on human physiology are all extremely hampered by the cold, suggesting that the proper evolved grays may also be highly sensitive to the cold.

If the story told by Arthur Dales in "The Unnatural" is accurate, the greys are not a carbon based lifeform, although little information was given on this.

Events of the Unnatural indicate that the colonists, grays, and bounty hunters are all one in the same, meaning the greys all posses the same shapeshifting ability.

According to comments made by CSM in "The Truth", the colonists/greys share the supersoldiers weakness to Magnetite.

If the bounty hunters and grays are the same species, as The Unnatural indicates, then the Greys likely share the healing abilities exhibited by the county hunters.

Use as disinformation

Several episodes, incidents indicate that the government sometimes uses images of greys for disinformation purposes, to conceal the abductions and activity performed by the human members of the project. It should be noted that the fake greys often look notably different from the real ones, although they share the same basic look.
