Carl Wade (played by Michael Chieffo) was a psychotic hebephile and rapist who kidnapped young girls in Oregon and held them hostage. Wade would lock the girls in the dark basement of his cabin, never letting them out and spending years taking their pictures and torturing them. Wade's victims were young, teen girls he met through his job as a school photographers assistant. For whatever reason these girls would capture his attention, leading to an obsession over them until he kidnapped them in order to "have them all to himself". In the 1970s, he kidnapped Lucy Householder, holding her hostage for five years until she escaped in 1978. Even though Lucy was free, she was deeply scarred and barely able to function in society. In 1995, he kidnapped Amy Jacobs. A bizarre psychic connection between Jacobs and Householder allowed Mulder and Scully to eventually discover Wade. While Wade was fleeing the FBI with Jacobs, they ran into a freezing river. Mulder stopped Wade at gunpoint, but Wade decided he needed to kill Jacobs rather than let her free. As he tried to drown her in the river, Mulder shot Wade dead. (TXF: "Oubliette")
Trivia[]
- While it is never explicitly stated that he was a rapist it is heavily implied. Many of his interactions with Amy have sexual overtones and his previous victim, Lucy, cannot stand to be touched, a common behavior of rape victims.
- According to Lucy, Wade did not get the chance to rape Amy. In a conversation with Mulder, she explains that he doesn't feel he can "touch" the girls, only taking their photo, until he feels he can no longer keep them all to himself. Amy's escape attempt and closing in of law enforcement forced him to try and kill her instead.
