The Beggar Man in 2001.
The Beggar Man was an Indian mystic with Siddhi powers, allowing him to hide in the stomachs of his victims, warp others' perception of his appearance and turn invisible. Legless, he had merely a little cart on which he moved by propelling himself with his hands.
No clear motive is given for the Beggar Man's killing spree, with Burks noting that fakirs, being highly orthodox, would usually be in opposition to murder. Scully discovers mid-way through the investigation that three months prior, an American chemical plant in Vishi, a small town near Mumbai, had a leak, releasing toxic gas which caused the death of 118 villagers, including the 11-year old son of a local Dalit "holy man" of the Chamar caste. Shortly after, an American traveller was found dead, his eyes bleeding and his stomach ruptured.
In 2001, at the Mumbai airport, the Beggar Man spotted Hugh Potocki, a heavy-set businessman leaving for his flight back to America and silently gestures for alms, eventually receiving 50 paisa from a begrudging Potocki. The Beggar Man, however, drops the money and follows Potocki to the toilet stalls, where he murders him and hides in his stomach cavity, supernaturally manipulating Potocki's body to appear as if he was still alive, allowing him to make his way to Washington D.C. He leaves the body at a hotel, where it is found some hours later in its actual deceased state, blood pouring out of every bodily orifice. The Beggar Man eventually appeared as a different man, Mr. Burrard, and took up work as a custodian at a middle school. He soon developed an interest in two students, Quinton, a 6th grader and Trevor, a 7th grader, after watching the latter bully Quinton. Curiously, both were able to partially see through his disguise and see glimpses of his real form.
That night, the Beggar Man arrived at the house of Quinton and killed his father. Scully then examined his body, noticing that it had developed at distended stomach and proceeded to cut it open. Frightened by the sudden emergence of the Beggar Man, she scrambled for her gun and tracked the trail of blood to a supply closet, but found no trace of the man.
The next day, he followed Trevor, who made a run for his house and was able to escape into the woods. The Beggar Man was instead presented with the opportunity to kill his mother by mimicking Trevor and fake his drowning inside the outdoor pool. Following a report from the school administration, "Mr. Burrard" was taken into custody, but the FBI soon discovered that the man they arrested was merely a sort of astral projection, with the real man still at the school. Finally, the two boys worked together to stop the Beggar Man and tried to kill him by dropping cleaning chemicals on him. The Beggar Man avoided their trap and eventually trapped Quinton in a classroom. Scully and Mrs. Holt, the school director, arrived as he closed in on the boy, but the adults saw Trevor instead of the Beggar Man and started lurching towards Scully. Despite her warnings, he would not desist, and at Quinton's insistence, Scully to shot him three times. Moments later, Doggett arrived, finding a shocked Scully standing over the motionless body of the Beggar Man.
Two weeks later, the Beggar Man is shown alive at the same airport, having apparently survived and somehow returned to India, watching another rich man begin to leave the country. (TXF: "Badlaa")
