Anthony "Tony" Reed (played by Rodney Scott) was a teenager who had recently moved from his native Philadelphia to Pittsfield, Virginia with his mother. According to her, Tony, despite being an honor roll student, was prone to falling in with "the bad crowd" in his previous schools, hoping to make a fresh start at Adams High School. However, he soon found himself getting back into his old habits and befriended of Max Harden and Chastity Raines, two popular, yet antisocial classmates. What he did not know was that both had temporarily gained superhuman speed after stepping into a strange light in a mysterious cave and were going to introduce him to it so that he may experience the effects for himself. The planned meeting went awry when Tony was caught trespassing by Deputy Ronald Foster, who was then murdered by Harden to protect their secret. Tony became the subject of investigation as the prime suspect in the killing on account of being the only known person near the crime scene at the time, as Max and Chastity had ditched him afterwards. Reed only worsened his situation by simply retelling his limited, hard to believe recollection of that night and refusing to incriminate his friends to Mulder and Scully.
Tony was made aware of Harden's ability when he took him for a joyride in a stolen car and moved himself and Tony to the side of the road while still driving, as the car crashed at high speeds into a tree. Harden made it clear that he was willing to share the source of his speed, so long as Tony remembered who was "calling the shots".
The next day during lunch, Tony witnessed along with other students as their teacher, Mr. Babbitt, was violently killed by a seemingly invisible force. Only Tony knew that it had been Harden who murdered him, after being given a bad grade. Following this, he and Chastity Raines decided to put an end to Harden's murderous spree, with the latter taking Tony to the cave to get the same speed-inducing powers to fight off Harden. Tony caught up to Harden as he was about to kill his own father, Sheriff Harden. When he escaped and the effect began to wear off, the teens all rushed to the cave, hoping to beat Harden there. However, Harden beat them there and threw Tony across the cave as he entered, preparing to kill him with his father's gun. To Harden's surprise, though, Raines used her remaining strength to quickly take ahold of the weapon and shot her boyfriend with it before stepping into the bullet's path herself in an act of suicide. Though injured, Tony was the only survivor of the incident and was believed to have not suffered the same detrimental side-effects on his health as his now dead friends had, but an apparently malfunctioning clock in the hospital room leave the extent of Tony's potentially lingering powers uncertain.
