Anson Stokes was a Missouri resident. He worked at a storage unit facility.
At his workplace, Anson Stokes discovered a Jinni that promised him three wishes. He wished that his boss, Jay Gilmore, would "just shut up." Gilmore's mouth was instantly covered with skin that kept him from talking. Stokes' second wish was for a boat, which he had always wanted. However, he never thought about the taxes owning such a boat would entail nor where to put it. Thus, it became a huge problem for him and his physically handicapped brother, Leslie Stokes. Anson Stokes was determined not to waste his last wish but wasn't able to understand a hint from the Jinni implying he should wish for his brother to be able to walk. Stokes wished to be able to turn invisible, which the Jinni said was "striking in its unoriginality." He thereafter turned invisible, despite not specifying what would happen to his clothes or whether he could return to being visible. Much to the glee of his brother, Stokes went running around their trailer park, causing trouble. He spied a woman working on a bicycle he intended to harass, but was struck and killed by a truck while crossing the street.
Stokes' body was recovered by the police. FBI Special Agents Mulder and Scully were brought in to investigate. Scully was absolutely beside herself with amazement at the invisible corpse. Meanwhile, Leslie Stokes came into possession of the Jinni. His first wish was to bring his brother back to life. Much to the despair of Scully, Anson Stokes vanished from the morgue and returned to the Stokes' trailer. However, Anson appeared as a decaying corpse, replete with a wound from being hit by the truck and unable to speak. Leslie's second wish was for Anson to speak, which he could only do by shrieking at the top of his lungs. Eventually, Anson was able to articulate words, demanding what Leslie had done. Anson's lack of gratitude at being resurrected perturbed his brother. Anson said he was extremely cold and unable to feel any sensation in his body. While Leslie contemplated his third and final wish, Anson lit a match in their gas oven, blowing up the trailer and killing both brothers. (TXF: "Je Souhaite")
